Payday Advance
A payday advance is a great way to solve a temporary cash shortage. The trouble when dealing with online companies of any ilk, and certainly where banking or financial information is involved, is in weeding out the legitimate ones from the fly-by-night operations that pop up, scam the masses, and then disappear just as quickly as they appeared.
While you may think yourself a good judge of these things, the truth is that you really can't tell. In fact more often than not, it's the glitzier, more extravagant and well designed sites are the ones you need to look out for, as opposed to the more unassuming ones that you think look suspect.
One of the first things you should avoid are the sites that contact you via phishing e-mails. We won't say that no legitimate companies will contact you via e-mail unsolicited, but the majority of them won't. Most of these sites simply exist to gather your personal data and either use it fraudulently and/or sell the information to others.
So how can you find a legitimate company? The first rule of thumb is to not rush the process. This can be difficult when you need cash immediately, so ideally you should research companies in advance and choose one to deal with before you ever even need a payday advance.
Here are just a few of the things you can look for in companies to help you in your decision of which one to go with:
BBB Rating - Pretty much the gold standard for finding legitimate companies in any field of business. The Better Business Bureau evaluates and accepts complaints of any company, whether they are accredited members or not, so you should be able to find data for just about any company you come across on the BBB website. Accredited companies will full details of their business listed, and all companies will have reports showcasing the number of complaints that company received and which if any of those were resolved at some point in time. As an example of the number of payday advance companies out there at present, a search of payday loans at the BBB site will return 200 companies, and there are surely many more.
Alexa Rank - This ranks the number of visitors to a site, namely the unique visitors. Alexa, or any other similar form of site traffic rankings can be a good indication of a site's level of legitimacy, as the word often quickly spreads about poor sites in what could be deemed anti-viral marketing that often leaves the site scrambling for visitors.
Verisign - Another industry standard, this tells you that a site is using secured transaction methods. This is important even through sites that are undeniably legitimate, as third parties could potentially access or intercept data otherwise.
These are just a few of the things you can look out for when looking for a payday advance. While none of these alone will guarantee that you're dealing with a trusted site, all of them together should give you a pretty good indication of the worthiness of a payday advance company.
