Santa Rosa California Payday Loans

Santa Rosa is the fifth largest city in the San Francisco Bay area with an estimated population of 157,985. The metropolitan area of Santa Rosa is the twelfth largest in the state of California and the one hundred and fourth largest in the United States. The city is the county seat Sonoma County, California. For numerous years the city slogan for Santa Rosa has been, "The City Designed For Living". As of 2007 the Chamber of Commerce, the city, and the Main Street Booster Group is seeking a new slogan that will help attract new visitors as well as business opportunities for the city.

In the early 1800s, during the Mexican period, the Carrillo homestead was the first known European settlement in the area. Downtown Santa Rosa was developed in the 1850s as Wells Fargo built a general store in the same area of the central square.

The central square is currently known as the Old Courthouse Square. Santa Rosa became the third city in Sonoma County to be incorporated. Although the United States recognized Santa Rosa as a city in 1867 they did not officially complete the incorporation process until 1868.

The population rapidly grew during the 1870s, making Santa Rosa the eighth largest city in California. In 1906 the city suffered a decrease in residents due to the San Francisco earthquake, which completely destroyed down town area.

The city continued to develop very slowly until after World War II, which quickly created a population boom that led to an increase of 1,000 residents each year during the 1950s and 1960s. By the 1990s the population had increased to an average of 2,500 new residents per year. Santa Rosa has continued to see this growth into the year of 2007.
