Salinas California Payday Loans

Home of the famed writer, John Steinbeck, Salinas is the county seat of Monterey County, California. The most recent population of 148,350 shows a slight decline from the amount of residents in the area in the year 2000. The decline in population is said to be caused by a lack of affordable housing in the area. Approximately eight miles from the Pacific Ocean the city of Salinas is known for its mild climate as well as being an agriculture area.

The city of Salinas began as a stagecoach stop in 1856. In 1867 a post office was established and the city was officially incorporated in 1877. The city was named after the Spanish word for salty marsh. The local economy had no difficulty booming from the start, as it is located in one of the richest farming areas in the state. The city's agricultural efforts produce fine crops including both fruits and vegetables. Many vegetable companies have developed their headquarters in Salinas due to the large volume of crop that is produced each year.

Besides agriculture Salina is very proud of its arts and culture that is represented by many galleries, theatres, murals, and restaurants. The Valley Art Gallery, the oldest gallery in Salinas, has been operating for over thirty years. The city also features many theatres such as the Wilson's Children's Theatre and the Western Stage. Salinas also celebrates its love for art with live music at various restaurants as well as displaying public murals through out the city.
