Payday Loans

Quick Cash

The trouble with payday loans is that people too often attempt to use them like credit cards, when they are nothing of the sort. These loans must be paid back in full often in no more than two pay checks or thirty days, completely different from a credit card, which can be paid back in small amounts over months or years. It doesn't make sense to take out a payday loan for anything but an emergency, as no matter how tempting that quick cash may seem, it must be paid back just as quickly.

So what qualifies as the proper situation to use a payday loan for quick cash? You can probably guess what we're talking about, but for example any medical bill, a car repair payment, or any other bill that must be paid immediately on pain of cancellation of services. Things on the fringe would be something like a concert that you may desperately want to see, but can't afford to attend at present, or a nice gift for your girlfriend after a fight. The obvious no-no's are taking out a payday loan for something like a new T.V or vacation. It simply doesn't make sense to take on the high interest rates for a short term loan, if anything you may as well wait the month and save that money aside, and then pay for the item with cash and avoid any loan fees.

And those lending fees are not cheap, really making them unsuitable for anything but emergencies. You're likely looking at rates of at least 20%, meaning for every $100 you borrow, you'll owe back $120. Surely a godsend in an emergency, but anything but in all other respects.

Of course a situation may come along where a T.V or vacation is on sale for a short time, and you want to take advantage of it. In this case you must simply weigh the savings against the loan fees. If you'll save $300 on that T.V that you were planning to buy soon anyway, and the loan fees will only run you $150, then it certainly makes sense to use it for that purpose. Being sure you can pay that loan back on time is important though, or those $150 in fees could quickly balloon well past the $300 threshold.

As tempting as getting quick cash can be, these are the options you need to consider before you jump in headfirst. You may not think it a big deal if you can't pay the loan in time, but those fees could escalate and leave you trying to climb out from under them for months to come.

When properly used they are a great boon to anyone in need, just realize that quick cash can also come with quick consequences in the hands of the uninitiated.
